Kindred’s Predoctoral Psychology Program offers opportunities to provide community-centered psychotherapy and healing through the Healing Space and ALMA training clinics.
Both practicum experiences, as training programs in African-Centered and Indigenous psychologies and epistemologies, are more than just opportunities to accrue clinical hours. Our training requires a commitment to building community with your cohort and local community members, as well as a deep dive into who we are as healers. In Indigenous healing traditions, being a healer (or psychologist) is not separate from who we are as people. Thus, our training centers on our understanding of who we are to ourselves, who we are to each other, and who we are to community members.
We ground our work in ethics of love and care and as such, our practicum programs center reflection, vulnerability, deep study of philosophy and spirituality, and authentic engagement with colleagues, elders (supervisors, faculty, community leaders), and community members (e.g., clients).
Please note that the ALMA practicum program is conducted almost entirely in Spanish and is primarily suited for native/fluent Spanish speakers seeking clinical supervision in decolonized, liberation psychology practices in Spanish.
Both Healing Space and ALMA are branches of the Kindred Collective for Healing and Liberatory Traditions within the CCSP department at UCSB, and are specialty clinic within the Hosford Counseling and Psychological Services Clinic.
