  • The Healing Space is a therapy training clinic under the UCSB Counseling, Clinical & School Psychology Department that specializes in consultation, counseling, and therapy for the Black community, provided by Black clinicians.

  • We strive to provide a restorative therapeutic space that understands the true nature of racism as well as the unique, incredible resilience and strength of our community. The Healing Space is also developing as a home base for Black scholars to be in community with one another, as they build academic careers that support healing racial trauma in Black communities.

  • We pride ourselves on having a diverse and intersectional lens. The Healing Space is for any and all members of the Black community, from across the African diaspora, who are seeking healing and psychological services with Black psychologists. We work with Black youth, adults, parents, couples/intimate partners, people in the LGBTQIA+ community, documented and undocumented individuals, and people with disabilities.

  • As a training clinic, we are open Monday through Friday, and by appointment between 9 AM to 8 PM. We do not have an “on call” or crisis management team in our clinic. If you are experiencing a crisis, or need assistance after hours, please see our Resources page to find a list of hotline and support resources geared towards the larger Santa Barbara area.

    We also follow the UCSB academic calendar, so we are closed during usual holidays and transitional breaks. Please speak with your student clinician or other members of our team for specific dates.

  • We are located and offer in-person therapy services at our campus clinical site, Hosford Clinic, University of California Santa Barbara, Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, Isla Vista, CA. We also offer virtual services, which we began offering during the pandemic, and quickly realized that it was accessible and preferred by some clients.

  • We currently offer services both virtually and in-person. We began offering virtual therapy during the pandemic and quickly realized that it was accessible and preferred by some clients.   • Healing Space uses a sliding scale model based on household income. The typical range of therapy costs run between $25-100 per session. We can refer clients that need financial assistance to pay for therapy to one of our funding partners that you can find under our Resources page

  • Our clinic does not accept insurance at this time. That said, we employ a sliding scale model and offer additional financial assistance to help make therapy financially accessible to everyone. You can find some of these under our Resources page.

  • Student clinicians (therapists) are doctoral students in the UCSB Clinical, Counseling and School Psychology (CCSP) Department. They provide direct clinical services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist and faculty supervisor (Dr. Alison Cerezo). You can find a list of our clinical team under our About page.

  • Yes! We offer couples/partners’ counseling. We also offer group counseling, and community workshop events at different times in the year. For more information about past and future workshops, please visit our Events page.

  • Yes! We are happy to work with and provide affirmative therapy to individuals and couples/intimate partners who are in the queer and trans community.

  • As a training clinic, we do not provide crisis services and do not have an “on call” or crisis management team in our clinic, but do provide a list of crisis and support resources. If you are experiencing a crisis, or need assistance after hours, please see our Resources page to find a list of hotline and support resources geared towards the larger Santa Barbara area.

  • We treat a range of clinical issues and challenges. In fact, this list is too long to list! When you complete an intake with our site, we will discuss whether our clinic is the best fit for your clinical needs.

  • Healing Space does not offer assessment. That said, the Mind and Behavior Assessment Clinic is a clinical partner here at GGSE and they offer assessments. You can contact them at: mbac@education.ucsb.edu.
